Halona Cabin

The Computer Science Department at Pomona is housed on the second floor of the Edmunds Building, which first opened in January 2007. Edmunds contains faculty offices, classrooms, and computer labs for Geology, Computer Science, and Cognitive Science and Linguistics.

Computer Facilities

  • The Distributed Computing Infrastructure page provides complete information on Unix and Linux support at Pomona.
  • The main Pomona CS server, linus.cs.pomona.edu, is a Dell Poweredge 6650 with four 2-GHz Xeon processors and 2 Gigabytes of RAM, running Debian GNU/Linux.
  • Edmunds 2183, the main CS lab, houses a cluster of Pentium workstations running Debian GNU/Linux. This is where Pomona CS majors usually do most of their work (often in the wee hours of the morning).
  • Edmunds 2189 is the main computer classroom. It contains twenty iMac workstations, and is equipped with state-of-the-art computer projection facilities. It is used exclusively for teaching Computer Science courses.
  • Edmunds 1158 is a smaller computer laboratory that is used for security and operating systems classes.
  • Edmunds 1153 is the AI and Robotics Laboratory, and is reserved for use by faculty and students working on AI projects.

Libraries

The Seeley G. Mudd Science Library on the Pomona campus and the Norman F. Sprague Memorial Library on the Harvey Mudd campus house extensive collections in the fields of computer science, mathematics, engineering, and the natural sciences, at both the undergraduate and graduate levels. Both libraries are part of the shared library facilities available to all students at the Claremont Colleges.

Halona Cabin

Each year, Pomona CS students and faculty members hold an overnight weekend retreat at Pomona College's Halona Cabin, located in the beautiful San Jacinto mountains about two hours from campus. The CS retreat is purely a social event, designed to foster friendships and camaraderie among students in the CS program. Here are pictures from the February 2001 retreat and the September 2006 retreat. A picture of the cabin is shown below.
