Our tribute to "Dividing the Light"

We are very pleased to have the new James Turrell Skyscape, Dividing the Light, in the courtyard outside of the Computer Science Department. The following small programs, created as examples and exercises for our introductory Computer Science course (CS 51), are presented in appreciation for James Turrell's artistic vision.

The following Java applet represents a view of the skyscape from below, looking up at the sky. Be patient as the light changes over time. Please click the mouse on the sky (most interestingly on the left side of the image) to create more images.

On the ground at the center of the skyscape is a pool surrounded by black tiles. Please click on the pool to create ripples and their reflections against the edge of the pool.
